Mural expert Marcus ‘GOMAD’ Debie explains the costs of a graffiti mural

One of the most frequently asked questions I get as a mural and graffiti artist is: How much does a graffiti mural cost? The honest answer: there’s no set price. The cost depends on various factors, such as location, size, complexity of the design, and the necessary preparation.

In this blog post, I’ll explain the factors that determine the price and provide some approximate prices. In short, how much does a graffiti mural cost?

What factors determine the price of a graffiti mural?

  1. Wall Dimensions
A small interior wall (for example, 3 x 4 meters) obviously costs less than a 20 x 15 meter facade. The larger the surface, the more paint, time, and materials are required.
  2. Design Complexity
Photorealistic portraits or elaborate scenes require more detail and therefore more hours.
  3. Location Accessibility
Indoors versus outdoors make a difference. Renting aerial work platforms, scaffolding, or safety equipment can significantly impact the price.
  4. Preparation and Surface
Is the wall clean and smooth, or does it need to be thoroughly primed first? Sometimes a primer or special coating is necessary to ensure quality and durability.
  5. Materials Used
Spray cans, wall paint, and protective coatings vary in price. Durable or anti-graffiti coatings can increase the investment but extend the lifespan of the mural.
  6. Location and travel distance
For projects abroad or further afield, travel and accommodation costs also apply.
